Knowledge Management Model and Strategy of Genetic Resources and Traditional Knowledge (GRTK) in Indonesia has generated in order to store, manage, display and integrate the data and information of genetic resources and traditional knowledge in Indonesia. They are expected to fulfill it’s function as a media to facilitate the sharing information between the research institution, policy makers and security (custom & policy).
The model has also expected to accommodate CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) I-Grest is prototype of portal interoperability Indonesian Genetic Resources and Traditional Knowledge.
This paper presents basic concept and roadmaps of I-Grest. The methodology starts with studying literature, surveying of policy and management, conducting Focus Group Discussion (FGD) between research institutions, policy makers at the ministerial level and also stakeholders of genetic resources and traditional knowledge in Indonesia, and conducting a comparative study of two institution, Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) who managing biodiversity in the world and Traditional Knowledge Digital Library-India who focused in traditional knowledge based on genetic resources in India.
