Data-intensive computing in earth science and geocomputing

Abstract:

Organizer: Prof. Guoqing Li, Center for Earth Observation and Digital Earth, Chinese Academy of Sciences, P. R. China.  

Objective: Data-intensive discovery now becomes the fourth paradigm of sciences. Significant research efforts have been devoted into the field data-intensive computing, including computing system arcitectures, data organizations, and domain-specific methodolies for data processing. Earth sciences and geocomputing have exhibited special requirements on data-intensive computing dur to large amount data from the earth observation systems and complex mathematical models in the geocomputing. This session intends to serves a forum for researchers and engineers from earth science and geocomputing to present research achievements, identify open questions, discuss resarch methodologies, and propose future roadmap for data intensive computing.

Organization: This session will be a harf-day event, and 6 internationally-reconized researchers from diffent application domains will be invited give a talk in the session. Each talk will take 20 minitues followed by 10-minute question & answer part. Proposed topic:  Data-intensive geocomputing  Massive remote sensing image processing  Data-intensive computing in high energy physics  Data-intensive bioinformatics  Programming models for data-intensive computing Important dates:  25 May 2012: Session proposal submission  June 2012: Starting to send out speaker invitations  June 2012: Distribute call for attendance of the session  July 2012: Session programm ready  28-31 October 2012: Session event
