Abstract:
Current research on data-intensive science should be viewed in the context of earlier dilemmas in information capture, handling, and interpretation. In common with prior technological developments, data-intensive GIScience raises new challenges and offers new opportunities. The overarching challenge for geography and the other sciences that employ data-intensive research will be to balance technological and social benefits and costs.
