All around the world, there is an increasing use of renewable energy sources and more efficient use of energy. These are motivated by a will to reduce green-house gases (GHG) emissions and the increase of fuel prices that drives up the prices of energy. At the same time the role of electricity as an energy carrier is increasing and the construction of new transmission lines and large central power plants is becoming more and more difficult. Energy policies are promoting energy efficiency, distributed generation (DG) and renewable energy resources (RES). Complex use of the distributed energy sources for integrated energy supply systems consists of the following main steps:
– to reduce energy demand by implementation of the energy saving and energy efficient measures;
– use of the sustainable energy supply sources instead of the fossil fuels or nuclear power;
– more efficient energy production from the fossil fuels.
Advantages of these systems are: short launch period, modularity, local and municipal management, no need for the new stations and transmission lines construction, reliability and flexibility, a variety of fuels as a result less impact on the price fluctuations, much less GHG emissions and harmful environmental impact.
Integrated energy supply systems are the future that combines profitability and efficiency with environment protection and sustainability.
Implementation of the integrated energy supply systems requires interdisciplinary research and includes economic, technical, environmental, policy and resource analysis. As a result of this research will be presented Map of the priority energy generation technologies based on renewable energy sources for Ukrainian regions.
