Open Knowledge Environments (OKEs) are online portals with four main characteristics:

  • (1) interactive, participatory knowledge production,
  • (2) knowledge distribution and sharing,
  • (3) open collaboration and use, and
  • (4) storage, curation, and preservation.

This presentation will provide an overview of the economic aspects of the development of OKEs, the potential economic effects, and the legal conditions and common-use licenses that can provide open access and reuse permissions to the information on the OKE. [[Talk has been combined with B5-1]]
