An Open Knowledge Environment (OKE) uses an interactive, participatory approach, and builds on existing and emerging open access (OA) models in publishing research literature, sharing research data, and the use of open source software, to support innovative approaches to the creation, management, dissemination and effective utilization of knowledge.
There are different technical, economic, legal, policy, and sociocultural requirements for creating and sustaining an OKE. This presentation focuses on the policy and sociocultural aspects that would promote and facilitate effective participation and collaboration in the knowledge creation process, as well as effective utilization of the knowledge created through an OKE.
